The Rhododendron Park annual budget for 2017/2018 has been approved. The board has worked hard to reduce expenses without reducing services so that dues do not have to go up.

Board Member Vacancies

A few board members have had to resign recently for various reasons and that opened up 3 positions that were filled this last meeting. We would like to introduce the temporary fill-ins for the 3 positions
Welcome:
Heather Dunham
Virgina Klein
Amanda Lawson

Due to a lack of resumes submitted last year, these positions were filled by willing members present at the last meeting. These positions will be held until the next annual vote for board members in September.
Those wishing to run for a position on the board should fill out the resume that will be posted to the website by July and turn it in before August 15th. There will be 2-'3 year' terms & 2-'1 year' terms available. The positions will be filled by the people with the highest and second highest vote counts going to the 3 year terms followed by the 1 year terms; unless otherwise agreed upon by the candidates prior to the vote.

More Trees

With that wonderful snow storm we had on Feb. 6th, we have found two of the trees in the 117th St Park were dangerous. One tree at the rear of the park had a lot of broken branches that were hanging and had the potential to cause damage or injury. The other tree, the middle cedar in the cluster of three, was found to have insect damage to the center of the tree increasing risk of the tree coming down unexpectedly. Both trees have been cut down for the safety of the park and its residents.

If you are interested in using some of the wood from the fallen trees, we ask that you contact the office first and use carts or wheel-barrels,
No motorized vehicles allowed in the park.

Update: The most of the trunk of the trees have been removed but many large branches and limbs remain. We will soon be working to clean up the remaining debris.

Use of fallen trees

To all of the members of Rhododendron Park that use firewood for heat, there are a number of fallen trees in the greenbelts and parks that could be utilized as firewood and the board is okay with some of the fallen trees being cut up for firewood but we ask that you contact the office and/or maintenance before cutting up any fallen trees so as we can determine if it is tree that is acceptable for removal from the greenbelt or park.

Only the HOA Board has the authority to have tree in the greenbelts or parks that are still standing, cut down.
We are only authorizing some of the already fallen trees to be cut up for firewood, preferably for personal use and not to be sold.

Currently we have a few trees on the ground near the back entrance of the park between 202nd & 205th, aka the 'hidden park', that can be cut up for firewood. Again we ask that before you cut up the fallen trees, please contact the office and/or maintenance so that we are aware of the cutting in case someone calls about people cutting down trees in the park.
Update: Jan 31 - The trees have been removed, only limbs remain.

Mail Theft and reporting it

We have had a lot of mail theft as of late, and with the holiday season upon us, more and more letters & packages will be delivered. If you see someone going through multiple mailboxes or taking packages off of porches, call 911. If you are able to, take pictures of the individual(s) or vehicle. If you believe that your mail has been gone through or you are missing letters that you should have received, we have a link to the USPS 'Mail theft & vandalism card' that can be printed out and mailed in to report mail theft. We also have links to the USPS website, UPS, & FedEx websites.
From the menu above, select "Information" then "Contacts & Useful links"

Crime Activity Reporting

The Pierce County Sheriffs office has been contacted in regards to how we can clean up Rhody Park of the criminal behavior. One of their suggestions was to create a tip line email to report activity to. This way instead of receiving 10, 20, 30 different emails from all different people, they get one that has a higher priority and they can focus their attention on it. This is NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR 911 in emergency situations. This is for documenting who is doing what, where and when so the officers can better focus their attention on individual places, and on the individuals, causing problems. To report activity email to Report@RhodyPark.com.

Compliance Committee Looking for Members

Our Compliance Committee is looking for 1 to 2 additional members to help with the task of documenting possible compliance concerns. Please contact our Compliance Committee at Compliance@RhodyPark.com if you are interested.

Arborist Wanted

Rhododendron Park Maintenance Co. is currently seeking a qualified Arborist or tree cutting service.
We are hoping to find a someone here in Rhody Park first before searching elsewhere. Part of the qualifications are that this company or independent contractor be currently and fully licensed, bonded, and insured. If interested please contact the Office at 253-891-9108 or email President@RhodyPark.com

New Web Site

We have a new website that is now being maintained and updated by one of our residents, who is doing so as a community member, at no cost to the HOA. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the website feel free to E-Mail the website administrator.

Along with the new website, we now have an email system for communicating with the board, park maintenance, the newsletter committee, & the compliance committee. For a list of email addresses select "Contact" from the menu above.

Currently the 'PDF' format for the minutes & financial reports are intermittently working in Microsoft Edge browser. We are looking into fixing this issue. Other web browsers (ie. Goggle Chrome & Mozilla Firefox) are working fine.
